While there is a
British production of this play with a phenomenal cast, the Americans seem to have come up with an answer.
Roundabout Theatre is currently running a
Waiting for Godot on Broadway. This cast features
Bill Irwin (2005 Tony Award for
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf) who is right at home in a Vaudeville style performance. Broadway legend
Nathan Lane plays the other tramp.
John Goodman is playing Pozzo. And
John Glover who has received a Tony nomination for his portrayal of Lucky.
While the design looks a little suspect - the play seems to be set among giant boulders and rock faces making it look a little 1960's sci-fi, you cannot deny that this is a stellar cast. This is another version of Godot that I hope will go on tour and travel through Chicago.
Happy Birthday:
Arthur Sullivan (1842-1900) &
Bea Arthur (1922-2009)
