The Guardian published a posting on their blog challenging playwrights to be more political. Too often we as theater artists back away from issues because we're afraid it won't make for an entertaining night out. More artists need to step up to the challenge because there is plenty of theater that settles for entertaining. And furthermore theater is known as being an art form that promises more than just entertaining.
