Play of the Week: Othello

Sure we all know the Shakespeare play Othello: the Moor of Venice so this week we're going to journey through a slightly different version. In 2001 Masterpiece Theater reinterpreted the classic story as a cop drama. Set in modern day London, John Othello has just risen to the top spot at Scotland Yard making his lieutenant Ben Jago. While it may seem a little contrived, the story plays out fairly well in relation to the original. And even though you purists may not like it, if you watch it strictly as a cop drama, it's pretty good.

Either way, there is some amusement for you Shakespeare buffs. I would suggest a viewing for a creative new way to stage the story.

Happy Birthday:
December 18: Christopher Fry (1907-2005), Joseph Grimaldi (1778-1837), Ossie Davis (1917-2005), and Abe Burrows (1910-1985)
December 19: Manuel Breton de los Herreros (1796-1873), Ralph Richardson (1902-1983), and Tankred Dorst (b. 1925)
