Even ...I feel that theatre does require an author. Even in the cases mentioned where stories are director or actor driven, someone must decide what story is being told. It may not be through dialogue, but someone must hold the reins of the storyteller. Also, if you look at Aristotle's Six Elements- Theme, Action, Character, Language, Music and Spectacle. Four out of six of these elements rest in the hands of the playwright.<BR/><BR/>Also, as a member of the Dramatists Guild I have to note the following. The theatre is the only commercial realm where a writer can control his or her own words.
