As I was doing research on Hamletmachine two weeks ago, I was struck by an amusing similarity. Look at how much Heiner Mueller (pictured above at right) looks like the Slings and Arrows character Darren Nichols (pictured to his left although the resemblance is more apparent in this video clip).
I wonder if the writers had him in mind when they created the anarchist, avant-garde director who studied in Germany. My friends and I often wondered who the character was based on. I think we may have a candidate.
i think you hit the nail on the head. darren's dialogue could be straight out of muller's Explosion of a Memory.
