Beckett on Film

In 2001 Michael Colgan put together a project that would film all 19 of Samuel Beckett's plays in an anthology titled Beckett on Film. Some generous person has placed Waiting for Godot in its entirety on YouTube. Follow the link here to watch the production.

This version makes the interesting choice to play the two tramps, Vladimir and Estragon, with Irish accents. This makes sense as Becett was born in Ireland (though he expatriated to France and wrote most of his works in French - doing his own translations into English). Some of the phrases seem to flow better with the lilt of an Irish tongue. Watch the play and see what you think.

Happy Birthday: Conor McPherson (b. 1971)
