Teen Volume Project
The Chicago Public Library has a wonderful program as part of their Teen Volume Project. Their Reader's Theatre Troupe has teamed up with Promethean Theatre Ensemble to allow students to work side-by-side with theatre professionals in developing and staging adaptations of literature. The teens are guided all the way from the page to the stage in developing their work until it is presented in a reading performed at various branches of the library throughout the city.
The program not only promotes reading, but critical thinking about the materials being covered. The teens get one-on-one coaching on interpretations, performance, inflection, and presentation.
