Artist Profiles: Blake Williams (The Coachman)

This week we catch up with Blake Williams. Remember for more information on our upcomming project, "Geppetto," visit our website at www.ghostlightchicago.com.

What is the craziest thing you've done on stage?
A production of Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl, where I played the Lord of the Underworld, I wore stilts and long heavy chains, while giving a long monologue in a baritone voice eventually falling during a number of performances and dragging myself off stage.

What is your definition of clown?
The basest, purest, form of ourselves, the ID.  Insecure, and needy, it's that which is supressed in Adulthood.  I think we rarely recognize this basic nature, except perhaps in moments of extreme stress, duress, death, birth and in moments of artistic inspiration or expression.

What are you hiding behind your mask?
Profound Despair and Rage.
