Attend a Free Night of Theater in October

The League of Chicago Theatres along with Theatre Communications Group (TCG) is pleased to announce that Free Night of Theater, the unprecedented campaign to attract new audiences, will take place in Chicago for the third year during the entire month of October 2010. Free Night of Theater was conceived as a way to remove perceived barriers that have historically prevented audiences from attending theater.

During the entire month of October in Chicago, new theater-goers can see a production for free at a theater they’ve never previously attended. Reservations are limited to two tickets per person for the duration of the program. Tickets must be reserved online at the Free Night of Theater website and not through each theater’s individual box office. Once tickets have been reserved through the website, patrons will be able to pick up their tickets at the individual theater’s box office on the night of the show.

Tickets for Chicago performances will be released weekly beginning the morning of Tuesday, September 28 at www.freenightoftheater.net. New blocks of tickets will be released every Tuesday morning throughout the month of October.

“We’re thrilled to build on the success of this program and provide thousands of tickets for new patrons to experience Chicago’s theater scene,” said Deb Clapp, Executive Director of the League of Chicago Theatres. “Free Night of Theater has a proven track-record of engaging new audiences and bringing them back as ticket buyers. We are excited to participate with theatres across the country in this nationwide audience development initiative.”

Breaking News: Mayor Daly will not seek re-election!

Richard Daily announced today that he will not run for re-election. One of Chicago theater's biggest supporter will no longer be the mayor of our fair city. Few details are known since the story is still new, but one cannot help but speculate the kind of ripples this event might cause in the Chicago theater community.
